Posted On: Tuesday, June 5, 2018

Saturday July 7 th 2018 from 11am to 4pm, the Craigleith Heritage Depot will play tribute to the age of vinyl. This will be an opportunity to meet other collectors and swap or sell your old vinyl records. Whether you want to shake your head to some classic rock, or tap your foot to a newly discovered old beat, this weekend is for you. If you are interested trading or buying, or are interested in booking a table space, old 78s, 45s or 33 1/3 rpm records are all welcome.

VINYL SWAP: MEET OTHER COLLECTORS, AND CHECK OUT VINTAGE VINYL

Vinyl is making a comeback with many musicians and bands continuing to press records today. If you love the unique sound of vinyl you’ll be able to find some oldies and maybe some newbies at our Vinyl Swap event. Those interested in bringing a large amount of their own vinyl can arrange table space by calling the Craigleith Heritage Depot at 519-599-3681 ext. 3 to register.

A little history: 78 records were made of shellac material which was much easier to break as well as limited in storage and quality. The 12-inch 33? 1 ⁄ 3 rpm long play record and the 45–rpm, 7-inch record came onto the market in 1948/1949. Made of polyvinyl chloride or polystyrene (vinyl) these records
quickly replaced the old 78s. With the reduced cost of production, small label record companies also emerged and brought with it the new era of Rock and Roll.

FYI, Notable Historical musical events that also happened on July 7th include:
-1954 Elvis Presley had his first record played on radio debut when WHBQ Memphis for Sun Records, 'That's All Right" July 7, 1967
- The Monkees opened a national tour with Jimi Hendrix as the opening act
-1977 - Styx released the album 'The Grand Illusion";

For more information, or to register table space, please contact the Craigleith Heritage Depot 519-599-3681 x 3 or depot@thebluemountains.ca
