Message from Alar Soever, Mayor Elect

Posted On: Wednesday, October 24, 2018

The election is over and the people of the Town of The Blue Mountains have spoken. First, let me congratulate all of the candidates who put their names forward. It is not an easy thing to commit to running. I can truly say one of the best things about this campaign has been getting to know some of the other candidates and working with them as a team for the greater good.

Message from Alar Soever, Mayor Elect

To those who won, I look forward to working with you. For those who were not successful, many of you put forth good ideas, and I look forward to finding ways in which you can contribute to seeing these become a reality.  I thank all who participated in the campaign for your efforts on behalf of whichever candidate you supported. It’s great to see this level of community engagement and the spirit of goodwill that most of you have demonstrated.

During the campaign I have met a lot of wonderful people who are very passionate about our Town. We are all residents of our Town, whether we are full time or part time, whether we live in Thornbury, Clarksburg, Craigleith, Lora Bay, Duncan, Egypt, Gibraltar or one of the many places in between.

The new Council will be a Council for all corners of our community.

As we go forward to meet the challenges we face, we will listen to you and work with you, so together we shape our community into what we want it to be.

We will clearly convey our vision for our community to developers, businesses, and residents who want to move here, so they have realistic expectations of what they will be able to build and operate here. If their proposals will add value to our community, we will work with them so that both they and our Town can thrive and prosper. If they do not, we will suggest they go elsewhere.

In the next few months I will work with the newly elected deputy mayor and Council to develop an action plan to meet the priorities that were brought forward by you during the campaign. We will set achievable, measureable targets, and report to you on our progress.

We will work to REBUILD TRUST and RESTORE RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT, so that together we can effectively MANAGE THE CHANGE IN OUR COMMUNITY to ensure that our Town remains a great place for everyone to live, work, run a business, raise a family, and retire.

I look forward to working with our new Council, and I want to thank you all for your support both now and in the
future.
