Beekeeping 101 with Janine McGowan

Saturday, June 15, 2024 1:00pm - 2:00pm
Location: L.E. Shore Library

Join us for an inspiring journey into the world of beekeeping with Janine, whose passion for these remarkable creatures ignited in 2006 at the University of Guelph's Honey Bee Research Centre. Over six enriching years at U of G's Bee Lab, Janine underwent extensive training under the guidance of Paul Kelly. She not only served as the president of U of G's Apiculture Club for four years but also completed and published a groundbreaking master's project. Embark on a captivating exploration of Janine's experiences as she delves into numerous apiculture-related research projects. Discover how she has been a steadfast advocate for pollinator conservation, serving as an interpreter of citizen science for Pollinator Appreciation Week at the Royal Ontario Museum for five consecutive years. Prepare to be enlightened as Janine shares her insights and expertise through engaging presentations and workshops on the symbiotic relationships between honey bees, native pollinators, and cover crops. Learn how these tiny yet mighty creatures can teach us invaluable lessons in co-existence, community, mindfulness, and respect. Be a part of this transformative event as Janine continues to expand her knowledge of native pollinators, with a special focus on regenerative agriculture and gardening. Join her in advocating for a greener, more sustainable future—one where habitats flourish and the buzz of pollinators fills the air. Less grass and more habitat, please!
