Light Pollution: Much More Than Just Seeing The Stars?

Light Pollution: Much More Than Just Seeing The Stars?Thursday, October 15, 2020 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: The Blue Mountains Public Library Zoom.

Have you ever seen the Milky Way? Do you wish that we didn’t waste so much energy to light up the night sky? It seems the number and brightness of lights we use to light our way at night just grows each year, and how the adverse effects of light pollution now reach all corners of our planet. Would you like to learn about light pollution and how we can appropriately and safely light the night while protecting the natural environment? Join Ian Wheelband from the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada for a virtual discussion on nighttime lighting and how it impacts our environment. Learn about the various adverse effects of excessive lighting, about what is safe and what is not. Learn what you can do to reduce the impact of nighttime lights, at home and in your community. Light Pollution reaches so much further than just the extinguishment of our stars at night. You will need a computer or laptop with a web camera, or a tablet or smart phone to participate in this event. Once registered, you will be sent a Zoom Meeting ID and password to attend this program. Free event. Ages 18 and up.
