Thursday, February 11, 2021 7:00pm - 8:00pm
Location: The Blue Mountains Public Library Zoom
Winter 2021 is both chilly and socially restricted, but we can still observe the night sky and look through the telescope together. Join local astronomer Ian Wheelband for a virtual tour of the winter skies using a video camera and Zoom. From under the stars to your warm comfy chair in front of the computer, Ian will use his telescope and video camera to give us a live and full-colour view of the most interesting objects in the winter skies. We will look at the Orion nebula, the Moon, Uranus and Mars, as well as several other deep sky objects. Ian will use a planetarium program to show us where the telescope is pointing, give some background information on our objects, and then show you how to find them with the unaided eye or your binoculars. Then, we will all watch together as the telescope moves across the night sky and zeroes in on our celestial targets. If it is cloudy where Ian is located, we will still be able to view "almost live" prerecorded views through the telescope from a few nights earlier. It will be almost like being there! All Ages. Pre-Registration Required You will need a computer or laptop with a web camera, or a tablet or smart phone to participate in this event. Once registered, you will be sent a Zoom Meeting ID and password to attend this program.
