Reopening of Playgrounds and Update on Town Operations

Posted On: Monday, April 19, 2021

The Town would like to advise residents that earlier today, a special meeting of Council was held to update Council and the community and to provide additional information and clarification related to Town services and community safety measures resulting from the recent announcement by the Province of Ontario.

Reopening of Playgrounds and Update on Town Operations

Town Staff and representatives from the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit, The Blue Mountains Ontario Provincial Police Detachment and Chair of The Blue Mountains Police Services Board were in attendance to provide operational updates and to answer questions from Members of Council. “The Town, working with the Grey Bruce Health Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police, is responding effectively to the recent rise in cases and the announcements by the Province,” stated Mayor Alar Soever. “Our response is focused on eliminating the social gatherings that have been the source of the vast majority of transmission in our community, while at the same time minimizing restrictions on our residents within the limits of the provincial orders. I ask all residents to do their part to keep our community safe, by minimizing all contact with those outside your household, and following all public health advice.”

To help provide clarification and consistent messaging the Town would like to remind residents that an interactive map confirming the open/closed status of recreational areas within the Town is available by visiting: https://www.thebluemountains.ca/covid-19-open-and-closed.cfm

In addition, Town staff will continue to work collaboratively with the Grey Bruce Health Unit, Ontario Provincial Police and other agencies to assess impacts to the annual opening fishing weekend to determine if restrictions and safety measures are required to be implemented as a means to limit gatherings.
