Update Regarding Town Facilities & Outdoor Recreation ahead of May Long Weekend

Posted On: Friday, May 21, 2021

The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to provide residents with an update on Town facilities and outdoor recreation ahead of the long weekend and in response to the recent announcements by the Province of Ontario.

Update Regarding Town Facilities & Outdoor Recreation ahead of May Long Weekend

Outdoor Recreation

Starting Saturday, the Tomahawk Recreation Complex including the golf course and the Thornbury Harbour including the boat launch, will be open for public use. Recreational boating is permitted but only with members of the same household. In addition, the skateboard park, baseball diamonds, tennis courts and other outdoor recreational facilities will also be open for public use. Town parks, trails and beaches will remain open for public use as long as physical distancing can be maintained.

Town-owned public washrooms will be open and additional portable toilets have been installed throughout the Town at the regular outdoor recreational areas.

The Town would like to emphasize that under Provincial direction, outdoor gatherings are limited to five people, which may include members of different households. All other public health and workplace safety measures under the province-wide emergency brake remain in effect. In addition, no outdoor sports or recreational classes are permitted.

Town Facilities

Additionally, the following municipal facilities remain closed until further notice:

  • Town Hall
  • Beaver Valley Community Centre
  • Craigleith Community Centre
  • Ravenna Hall
  • The Blue Mountains Public Library
  • The Craigleith Heritage Depot

The Town is reviewing facility reopening guidelines under the guidance of the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit and will provide additional information when available.

The Blue Mountains Public Library would like to remind residents that both facilities will offer contactless curbside pickup only, and virtual programs will continue to be provided during this time. Limited staff will be onsite to take phone calls to support residents needing assistance with placing holds and for those who require assistance with the provincial online vaccination process. For more information, please check the Blue Mountains Public Library website by visiting: www.thebluemountainslibrary.ca/.

During the facility closures, all essential services will continue to operate as normal, including the Town’s landfill, which will operate under enhanced cleaning and safety protocols. Town staff will continue to be available to assist residents over the phone and by email during regular business hours. Online services can also be accessed 24/7 by visiting: www.thebluemountains.ca/online-services.cfm.

The Town reminds the public to keep up-to-date on current Public Health guidelines before heading outdoors and to visit the Town’s COVID-19 Interactive Map for details specific to each outdoor recreational area.
