An Act to establish Food Day in Canada
This enactment designates the Saturday before the first Monday in August in each and every year as “Food Day in Canada”.
Whereas Canada’s national sovereignty is dependent on the safety and security of our food supply;
Whereas strengthening connections from farms to tables of Canadian cuisine contributes to our nation’s social, environmental and economic well-being;
Whereas supporting local farmers contributes to a sustainable Canadian food system;
And whereas the people of Canada will benefit from a food day in Canada to celebrate local food as one of the most elemental characteristics of all of the cultures that populate this nation;
Now, therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and House of Commons of Canada, enacts as follows:
2 Throughout Canada, in each and every year, the Saturday before the first Monday in August is to be known as “Food Day in Canada”.
What is Canada's signature dish?
If there's a national food of Canada, then poutine is it. Originating in Quebec, it elevates the humble french fry to legendary status with a salty topping of cheese curds and brown gravy.
